at Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa
The excitement is building, the anticipation is growing….OK, so at the moment certain areas of the hotel may call for a high vis jacket & helmet, rather than fluffy robe & slippers, but possibly the most talked-about makeover of any hotel in the North West in recent years is in full flow here at Shrigley!
We’re not just replacing the odd wardrobe, or applying a fresh lick of paint to the corridors (although this has been done), but we are refurbishing, refreshing & reigniting the whole, we repeat, the WHOLE, of our stunning country house pile.
A serene spa to immerse yourself in, ambitious bedrooms to hideaway in, unique dining spaces to wine & dine, in, and function rooms to party & celebrate in….each one of our stunning areas of the hotel is receiving the upgrade that is not just overdue but also richly deserved. Not to mention, ambitious investment in one of the most challenging golf courses in the North West. A course, with views to die for.!
Ambitious? Yes. Unique? Yes. Extensive? Yes. Lengthy? Yes…..but listening to what our guests are saying about the work completed so far…..it will definitely be worth it! Business as usual during the project? Yes….and we’ll work hard to ensure any disturbance is minimised
This blog will detail the journey, introduce you to some of the characters here at the hotel who are living and breathing the project, and reveal the fruits of their labour, as section by section, room by room, Project Shrigley Refurb reaches its conclusion
ROOMS….A TREE IN A BEDROOM? REALLY?
We don’t just have a few rooms here at Shrigley, we have 156. That’s a lot of swish bathrooms to install, modern décor to apply, and home from home beds to put in place. So far, Project Manager Martin and the team have completed approximately one-third of them. In the ‘new’ rear section of the hotel, unique wrought iron furniture, locally sourced rustic oak headboards, striking orange & grey colour scheme are the orders of the day. Charming spaces, with a nod to an industrial past…we, are near Manchester after all!
In the older section of the hotel, the completed rooms possess a similar style to the above but boasting a classy colour scheme based on blues and greys, slick furnishings, and luxurious bathrooms. These rooms are modern and airy…a perfect retreat.
What was actually once a storage cupboard, the ‘Upper Moorland Suite’ is now a fun & funky triple deluxe, and one of the most talked-about rooms here at Shrigley Hall, but for all the right reasons! Three king-size, luxurious double beds, contemporary furnishings, and unique en suite facilities include free-standing roll-top bath and double showers. Sleeping up to six guests, with neon lighting and decadent décor, this space excites upon arrival. Perfect for families, perfect for parties!
However, the ‘Piece de Resistance’ of the first stage of the project? Undoubtedly room 211. Sexy, artistic, ambitious…this room most definitely possesses the ‘Wow’ factor! Not only does it feature a luxurious king-size bed, but also the most salubrious of free-standing roll-top baths, a stunning bathroom suite, caged swing seat, sizeable living area…and all finished off with an inspired tree canopy, edging its way across the ceiling. Pictures don’t really do this room justice…it has to be seen to be believed!
SPA….BAZAAR IS ON THE WAY
Rest assured, when Mark, Martin, Claire, John, Scott and team complete our ‘BAZAAR’ Spa, it will be magnificent, majestic, and memorable. The entire area, both internally and externally, will be transformed to create a haven of peace and tranquillity, with a distinct North African/Moroccan/Byzantine feel. Since the theme was announced and the drawings released, the hotel team here have not only been frantically Googling ‘Byzantine’ (!!), but also doing their utmost to keep their excitement levels in check! If you weren’t aware, the Byzantine Empire dominated huge swathes of Eastern Europe for over 1000 years, and when Bazaar Spa is launched, all-conquering, it will prove to be! The project is planned to be completed in distinct phases; 1) Changing areas, spa whirlpool, beauty rooms & private suites. 2) Retail, reception, food & beverage outlet. 3) Outdoor tranquillity pool & private spa garden. 4) Indoor pool transformation, featuring thermal cabins, tepidarium and Moroccan trilogy.
To date, full refurbishment of both the male & female changing areas has been completed, along with the unveiling of our mother of pearl spa bath. Located on the site of what was the altar in this former Salesian Chapel, by immersing yourself in this pool, and feeling those stresses & stains ease away, an almost religious experience is guaranteed!
Are builders untidy? A lot of the time yes. But the team here are amongst the best in the business and avoiding any guest inconvenience is and will remain, to be their focus. Even though it’s a huge project, we’ve managed to keep the doors open, and it will be business as usual throughout.
The project is far from being finished, and areas of the hotel are still obviously in need of or are mid-modernisation. However, as each month passes, and improvements continue to be made, the positive vibes from both team and guest gather momentum. We’re looking forward to sharing the remainder of the journey with you
