WALKING AND HIKING
CHESHIRE AND THE PEAK DISTRICT
The hotel is situated on the edge of the Peak District National Park – a walker’s paradise. Britain’s most visited national park offers a spectacular variety of scenery and routes to be explored – from steep-sided limestone dales to the dramatic high moorlands.
You can follow national or local trails or simply take advantage of 524sq km (202sq miles) of open access land. For experienced walkers, the long-distance 431km (268 miles) Pennine Way national trail starts from nearby Edale and there are a wealth of additional routes to explore and enjoy. However, for something slightly more manageable, head towards neighbouring Lyme Park, White Nancy in nearby Bollington, or the Middlewood Way – all just a short distance from the hotel.
At the front desk, a map detailing 2 fun, family-friendly walks around the estate*, and 4 walks in the local area – ranging from 3 miles and 8 miles, is available. They are priced at just £1 each, from which a donation is made to our nominated local charity. The walks take in the best of the local area – Lyme Park, Bollington, and Macclesfield Canal.
*Please note that unless playing golf, walking on or around the golf course is not permitted. For the Oakridge Woods walk, the orange direction posts must be followed at all times and a map is available at Reception. Stout footwear is required for all.
We specialise and frequently accommodate walking groups and tours – please contact our reservations department on 01625 575757 for details.
